CureFest 2016 Recap

We had a beautiful weekend for CureFest 2016!  The Rally to the White House included a march down Pennsylvania avenue with 800 people signed up.  We walked from Freedom Plaza to the Capitol and had a brief gathering for a few words and pictures.  Four groups carried banners and were led by folks like Tatoo Tom Mitchell who kept us moving with various chants about childhood cancer.  That afternoon we met up for the meet and greet, had a beautiful opening ceremony at Freedom Plaza with inspiring speakers, dancers, singers and a surprise guest, Director Clancy from the Secret Service.  The evening was culminated by the walk to the White House.  Since the White House has opted not to light GOLD in September, parents marched together for a symbolic lighting of the White House.

On Sunday at CureFest organizations and individuals gathered from all over the country.  We don’t have an official count of how many states were represented at Curefest but we ourselves met people from:  Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.  Organizations gave out information about their mission and had give aways, games and prizes for those who stopped by their tents.  We were blessed by the singers and dancers and inspired by the speakers.

CureFest is sponsored in large part by the amazing Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation and The Truth365 a big thank you!  This year Aflac was also a platinum partner, the kids were thrilled to meet the Aflac Duck.  Our own ipad partner Joyce Koons Honda Buick was a Gold Sponsor with Stillbrave and Rosenthal and so many other organizations contributed too.  None of this could happen without the amazing VOLUNTEERS who work most of the year to make this happen, a crew of over 200 — thank you to these amazing people.

Planning for next year will be underway soon, please look for opportunities to be part of this great movement to be ONE VOICE for childhood cancer!
